Treatment methods
Microsclerotherapy
Superficial, small bluish veins located at the skin level, commonly known as spider veins or reticular varices, can be treated with microsclerotherapy. During this procedure, a sclerosing agent, typically Aethoxysclerol, is injected into these small veins. This process damages the cells of the innermost wall layer (endothelium) and triggers an inflammatory response. As a result, the spider veins and/or reticular varices undergo connective tissue remodeling and degradation.
Patients find spider veins cosmetically bothersome, and they do not always indicate an underlying medical condition. However, in about 30% of cases, they can be a sign of hidden varicose veins in patients with pronounced spider vein varicosis. Therefore, we recommend conducting a duplex sonography of the venous system prior to treatment to rule out more serious venous diseases requiring treatment.
We treat spider veins in 30-minute sessions. Depending on their size, the spider veins typically disappear within 4 to 8 weeks.
